Eating a deliciously  fresh lemon sole by Sutton harbour and the mouth of the River Plym with the sun shining on the water,  was a great way to first experience the much underrated city of Plymouth.   It was there that I met Ben Squire, owner of The Boathouse Cafe who told me his own story.

You can shout about cheese all you want to because let’s face it with so much choice around we all have our favourite types. Some cheese snobs might argue you can’t beat a strong stilton, a runny brie or a creamy camembert, but sorry cheese snobs you most surely can. England can proudly boast a fine cheese-making heritage and you won’t find a better example than Ford Farm cheeses. Smoked cheese has never tasted so good.

Considering it was a Thursday night, spare tables at Roux at The Landau, the signature restaurant at The Langham Hotel in Portland Place were few and far between. Perhaps it was a busy night at the BBC studios just opposite, or perhaps the draw of the 5 course tasting menu for £65 was too irresistible.
