A 70s-style bar awash in greenery portrays The Jones Family Project as a probable purveyor of right-on clean eating.   But appearances deceive; huge hunks of prime rib, rumps of hoggett and primeval pork tomahawks are what drive  traffic to this serious Shoreditch steakhouse after sundown.

Lotus Indian restaurant , two minutes from Charing Cross, breaks the rule which says an ethnic restaurant close to a mainline station is likely be inauthentic at best, a tourist trap at worst.   In fact this multi-award-winning eatery is up there with the best Indian restaurants in London, as good as the several with a Michelin star this reviewer has dined at.

Eneko at One Aldwych is a restaurant whose arrival should have been heralded with trumpets.   Here’s a chef who not only boasts three Michelin stars, but has been soaring steadily up the list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants for the past three years. 

There was once a time when Middlesex Street was called Petticoat Lane and the area was intensely poor. Times have changed and these days Middlesex Street is awash with restaurants and bars and the feeling is intensely well to do. The London Steakhouse Company City sits proudly in the centre of all this looking very much at home here.

London is short on Mexican restaurants which deliver the real thing, rather than the dreadful Tex-Mex experience. I’ve travelled extensively in Mexico and adore the street food so I’m looking forward to trying Mestizo, situated between Warren Street and Camden Town.
