The great joy of Shanghai is that it has not only the world’s biggest metro network but also one of the best. Normally I would always recommend staying in the city centre but the Radisson Blu, around half an hour from downtown by metro, is a welcome relief after a hard day’s sight-seeing.

As we arrived at the Eros Shangri-La, Delhi, an elegant Indian lady in a vibrant red safari bowed her welcome. Two liveried mature bellboys whisked our luggage onto a trolley and a splendidly turbaned gentleman serenely opened the door for us.

The Victoria Can Tho Resort is the only luxury four star hotel in the centre of the Mekong Delta and lies on the banks of the Hau River. It’s set in beautiful tropical gardens away from the noise of Can Tho town but a footbridge connects the two.
