The acclaimed cycling and outdoor specialist tour operator Headwater heads for Lake Garda as it announces a new self guided Italian cycling holiday for summer 2015 in theTrentino Alto-Adige region at the crossroads of Italy and Austria.
Starting in the traditional Italian mountain village of Silandro, in the heart of the unspoilt Val di Venosta, the cycling follows a linear route south passing Alpine meadows, pretty wine villages, historic spa towns and ancient art cities before a final downhill whizz brings guests to the shores of Riva, the “Pearl of Lake Garda” and famed for its pine-fringed beaches, sailing and stunning sunsets
Each cycling day has been carefully created by the Headwater team to include lots of “out-of-the-saddle” discoveries such as Bolzano (ranked as the top city in Italy in a recent quality-of-life survey), ancient Mezzocorona (occupied since 6,000BC) and cosmopolitan Trento whose rich architectural interest stems from its fascinating blend of Renaissance and Germanic influences. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, the region is a magnet for all outdoors enthusiasts. In the rural north, endless vineyards are punctuated with kite-surfing lakes(including Lago di Caldaro – also the warmest bathing lake in the Alps!), hiking trails and cycling paths; whilst, further south, sailing clubs and plush motor yachts add a touch of Mediterranean glamour to the lemon-lined shores of Lake Garda.
