It’s all very well being kitted out with insulated water resistant jackets when you’re trundling about the hills, dales and mountains and thankfully we’re not spoiled for choice in that department.
But what if you need something a little more refined? Something for the winter when you’re going out to a theatre or restaurant perhaps or visiting friends for dinner or just taking a stroll in the park?
Berghaus has long been recognised as one of the best producers of specialist weather proofed clothing there is and I’ve had personal experience of just how effective their products can be, stuck up a glacier in the Pyrenees. But using that technology in crossing over into the consumer mainstream is a genius move. Berghaus’ Ladies Aumont Duck Down Jacket has everything you would associate with top of the range insulation. The wind resistant and water repellent AF shell is as light as a feather and warm and snug, as you would expect, thanks to the 600 fill duck down lining and the fake fur trim around the hood. However here’s where it gets interesting. It has a contemporary high street design, an elegance perhaps more associated with designer fashion brands, a range of funky colours to appeal to any personality, and it’s long enough to cover those exposed legs when you’re out on the town.
The jacket hood is easily detachable when it’s not needed; your hands will stay nice and warm tucked into the two fleece-lined zip pockets and the Velcro adjustable cuffs will keep the wind from channelling up your arms. There’s also a two way zip so you’ll be able to open the jacket from the bottom up if you feel the need for a bit of extra fresh air.
The Aumont is a stylish bridge for matching practical outdoor protection with something you can use for everyday winter wear that’ll be a head turner in the best of social circles.
