Hotel Hochfilzer’s luxury treehouse has just opened to guests in the centre of Ellmau in the Wilder Kaiser mountains of the Austrian Tirol.
Built around a 50-year-old pine tree in the award-winning garden of the 4-star Hotel Hochfilzer in Ellmau, it’s a personal dream come true for hotelier Ingrid Hochfilzer and her artist brother Andreas Feigl.
The unusual accommodation features a double bed that can be rolled out onto the terrace for a romantic night under the stars. There’s a plush bathroom, living room with an extra bed, kitchen and terrace.
Said Ingrid: ‘Since our wonderful childhood which was very close to nature, we wanted to build a treehouse that is more than a children’s playground in the trees. It is so pretty with wood panelling and alpine plants on the roof and all around the house. My brother designed the hanging baskets which encourage our guests to spend some tranquil time underneath the tree in a quiet, shady spot overlooking the organic swimming pond and listening to its little waterfall.’
The tree – a local Föhre pine tree with long needles – is in Flora’s Garden, taken from Ingrid’s middle name, which she has developed as an organic herb garden over several decades, winning her the Austrian Natur im Garten award.
The Hotel Hochfilzer treehouse, which cost around €400,000 to build is offering special offers this summer including a half board Romantic Treehouse Package with breakfast in bed, and a sparkling nightcap – from €789 per person.
Summer holidays in Ellmau in the Austrian Tirol offer a range of activities including golf, climbing, hiking, Nordic walking and mountain biking. Its central location is convenient for ski lifts and offers ski-in/ski-out in the winter season.
