One of Spain’s finest luxury golf destinations, the famed PGA Catalunya Resort, has opened a new hotel to complement The Camiral, its signature five star property.
The new 50 room adults-only Lavida hotel is aimed squarely at golf groups or activity enthusiasts looking for a more informal stay to explore PGA Catalunya’s 300 hectare estate. The new property has been custom built from the ground up to offer sweeping panoramic views of the adjacent Stadium Golf course and the estate’s magnificent flora and fauna-dotted woodland.
With a choice of two championship courses, (the challenging Stadium Course a long-time nemesis of this particular writer) PGA Catalunya has long been the jewel in the crown of Costa Brava golf. Its proximity to Girona’s timeless old town and the airport is a no contest combination. But it has always had an air of exclusivity about it; it’s velvety fairways a distant dream for many slightly shallower pockets.
The Lavida offers up an alternative option and a window to a broader market; an opportunity to explore not just the golf, but a whole clutch of other outdoor pursuits including cycling, hiking, horseriding and birding amongst this glorious Catalan countryside. There’s even a brand-new forest park adventure for the more fearless; eight challenging treetop courses to be negotiated, all under the supervision of a trained instructor.
The Lavida is a highly contemporary space, informal yet stylish as would be expected from a resort with such impressive credentials. The guestrooms are compact with unexpectedly comfortable bathrooms while the floor to ceiling windows and balconies out to golf course views offer a sense of space and well-being with nature within touching distance.
Downstairs at Bella’s, the restaurant is the beating heart of the hotel; tapas meats and cheeses, fresh pasta and pizzas are comfort food favourites. All washed down with a favourite beer or cocktail.
Lavida’s lack of formality and easy-going nature is the stand out thing for me. It’s chic and contemporary yet highly affordable. A perfect alternative to her more illustrious sister a little further along.
