GRUBS Bromley Boots Review: Where cool Country Grit Meets City Style.

Stacy Jackman tries out GRUBS Bromley Boots a stylish alternative to traditional British winter waterproof footwear.

The great British winter has little respect for a carefully curated wardrobe.  Pavements shine with rain, footpaths dissolve into mud and the wrong boots can turn the shortest walk into the soggiest of slogs. There comes a point in every season where fashionistas are forced to make the choice between style or survival.

Just as well now perhaps there’s a solution for the fashionista dilemma. A rubber waterproof stylishly modern winter boot. The GRUBS Bromley boot.

GRUBS is an English family business based in Bolton in the north of England with a storied history when it comes to rubber footwear. Literally nine generations of Fosters dating back to 1776 when the family began making sports shoes for the local community. In 1863 Samuel Foster designed the very first spiked cricket boot.  Later generations, brothers Jeff and Joe Foster, founded perhaps a better known company by the name of Reebok.

Today’s CEO David Foster cut his early teeth at Reebok on handmaking shoes for world record breaking athletes. Then in 2001 he diversified again into rubber boots for the outdoor industry launching GRUBS after creating the first muck-type safety boot. So, rubber footwear innovation clearly runs in the veins of this particular dynasty and today it’s the only British family-owned maker of rubber boots.

Enter The Bromley by GRUBS. Better known for hard-working country footwear, the company has produced a new boot that neatly bridges the gap between conventional welly and an everyday winter boot. Its slimmer, more tailored silhouette means it sits comfortably with jeans, leggings or a full-length duvet coat allowing you to choose style and practicality.

Slip them on and the first thing you notice is how comfortable they feel. The lining is warm and softly cushioned, with a pretty willow pattern that adds a stylish touch. The durable rubber upper feels sturdy without being heavy or clunky. Underfoot, the gently heeled sole has a 3mm tread at the front and 5mm at the heel, with grooves that channel away water and deeper grips for slush and softer ground. The result is a smart-looking boot that feels secure and comfortable on wet pavements.

I chose Sage Green, an understated, earthy shade which works for a range of winter looks. Sea and Indigo are also available with brighter colours due in spring 2027.

The Bromley boot is a clever refinement of the traditional wellington. Practical, comfortable and stylish, it gets the essentials right. Whether you’re navigating a wet commute, enjoying a winter walk or rushing out on the school run, the Bromley boot has you covered, all while keeping your carefully curated wardrobe intact.

Now all you desperate fashionistas, I reckon this is the perfect solution to your outdoor dilemma. Agreed?
