There is something quite special about bypassing the ground floor check in and heading straight for the 3rd floor Langham Club private reception. Such is the benefit of getting Club access for the new Residences at The Langham London.
Within minutes, I have a chilled Prosecco in one hand, a cool towel in the other and rather delicious plate of snacks in front of me while the status of my residence is checked..
The new Residences at The Langham London is the latest development from a legendary hotel which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015, and has embarked on some remarkable projects during recent years. Artesian has been voted ‘World’s Best Bar’ for four consecutive years, father and son Albert and Michel Roux Jr, now head up all the food offerings in the hotel including the Palm Court and famed Roux at the Landau restaurant and an extensive phase of room renovations and remodelling has been undertaken.
it seems simply handing me my room key is frowned upon up here in the rarefied confines of the Langham Club, instead with a whispered “Mr. Mossack, please follow me and I’ll show you to your room,” I am escorted there and given a quick tour.
Two things stand out for me as I walk in. A giant bowl laden with fresh fruit and a very welcome basket of foodstuff from Selfridges Foodhall
This is a one bedroom residence and I am far too taken with the gleaming kitchen area to even notice where the bedroom is. A brand new white Kitchen Aid kettle, espresso machine and toaster stand proudly on the black marble work top, while a Miele hob oven and microwave are a worthy support cast in a very impressive culinary drama.
The lounge area is simply a study in class. Soft pastels, thick carpet and comfy furniture are complemented by eclectic wall artwork, some beautiful floral arrangements and a glorious view of Portland Place with the BBC’s Broadcasting House and All Souls Church.
I grab a bunch of crisp red grapes from the giant fruit bowl and stroll into a bedroom dominated by a king Langham Blissful Bed, itself, the subject of such acclaimed comfort, it is building its own legendary status.
Of course, the bathroom off the rear hallway, has all the Langham hallmarks; black marble, Chuan toiletries, a rain forest shower and separate bath.
I think to myself “this is a residence which could give any one bed apartment a run for its money”, just as my tour guide delivers a knock out line “There is also a 24 hour butler on hand and a private kitchen menu from Chez Roux if you need it”
These new Residences at The Langham London are benchmark examples of how to offer luxury living to guests looking for a longer stay. They also show, once again, why The Langham London is one of the best hotels in London. Period.
