Walking and cycling specialist, Headwater, has launched a new 10-night self-guided walk in the Austrian Lakes on the trail of Mozart. Combining relaxed, well marked walks with high quality, luxury 4-star hotels throughout, this latest itinerary is packed with natural beauty, scenic views and cultural highlights. Much of the route follows lush forest trails and unspoilt lakeside paths linking picture-perfect “chocolate box” villages, waterfront castles and cobbled streets crammed with tiny frescoed houses.
New discoveries are promised on every stop from the antique cog railway in St Wolfgang to Mozart’s Museum in St Gilgen, and from historic Bad Ischl (Emperor Franz Josef declared war on Serbia form here, later leading to WW1) to St Michael’s Basilica in Mondsee, scene of the famous wedding in The Sound of Music!
The hand-crafted 10-night itinerary has been cleverly designed to include both hotel-to-hotel walks, circular strolls and optional “rest day” excursions.
Choices include the beautiful UNESCO lakeside village of Hallstatt (believed to be the oldest and most photographed village in the country) as well as Mozart’s fairytale city of Salzburg where Baroque palaces, Renaissance gardens and elegant Viennese coffee houses abound!
