There is nowhere quite like the USA when it comes to family days out and Philadelphia is no exception to this rule. The city designed by Englishman William Penn is easy to navigate, small enough to walk around and, thanks to Penn more than a few parks. Explore Philly’s green spaces
The five major squares Penn designed to create bespoke neighborhoods, are full of lush green spaces and well worth exploring. But there are many parks too, so here are a few tips for Philly family fun.
Franklin Square
Get putting at the Philadelphia-themed miniature golf course – a truly unique experience for a mini dose of history! – or take a ride on the stunning Philadelphia Park Liberty Carousel, which is spectacularly lit at night. No park is complete without a playground and Franklin Square boasts two state-of-the-art jungle gyms to crawl all over.
Dilworth Park
Standing in the shadow of City Hall under Penn’s watchful eye, Dilworth Park has recently undergone a major renovation program including the installation of a new water fountain which residents seem to use more for cooling off. because of its location to City Hall it has become one of the most places to take a family group photo.
Fairmount Park
Fairmount Park has often been compared to New York’s Central Park as it stretches across 10,000 acres and encompasses 63 individuals parks and an incredible 200 historic buildings. It also happens to showcase more public art than any other city in the USA. Visitors can take to the trails for off-road cycling and hiking, before settling down on the grass for a family picnic for lunch. The Fairmount waterworks and Victorian properties on Boathouse Row are also interesting places to visit.
