Walking the Camino de Santiago

When I was walking the Camino de Santiago, my companion John was by all accounts not looking very well. To be fair, he had been walking solidly for the last two weeks and had completed nearly 500 kilometers. I suppose his generous girth and the fact that he had recently undergone bypass surgery didn’t help either.

Buried pirate treasure. Ok this was more like it. It’s all very well having gorgeous turquoise water, impossibly white sand and swaying palms to stare at all day long, but even paradise needs a little sprucing up after a while don’t you think? Here in the Seychelles there is plenty of sprucing possibilities after all, some people are led to believe in the Seychelles true Garden of Eden.

Bulgaria. More than just sea and skiing.

This was, to say the least, a little on the odd side. I wasn’t expecting to see two gentlemen playing the bagpipes, bearing in mind I was in a traditional Bulgarian Inn. Then again, everything I had experienced up to then in Bulgaria had been unexpected. The food, the people and the quite extraordinary history, had all been a very pleasant surprise.

The two senior citizens in front of me were clearly having a ball. They were, it must be said, up to their chins in the hot thermal waters of Szechenyi Bath’s outdoor pools, but more to the point, they were playing chess on a floating board and loving every minute of it!
