It seems Mike is the go to man at  the 5 star Hotel Camiral for gin tasting, which is a little surprising as Mike is Scottish and loves his whiskey. Having said that, he knows a thing or two about gin too and took me on a wondrous journey around all things juniper.

Hacienda Zorita Wine Hotel and Spa

A wine and olive spa may be an odd way to define a hotel, but in the case of Hacienda Zorita Wine Hotel and Spa it’s a prime attraction. The owners, actually a Spanish wine conglomerate, make wine and olive oil in the area around their one, splendidly secluded, boutique hotel as well as running an organic farm, and they certainly have a spa on the premises making therapeutic use of the by-products of the vine and olive tree.

I was fully expecting to encounter Agatha Christie or the aristocratic ladies of Downton Abbey, transported by time capsule here to the 5* Hotel Botanico’ elegant terraces sipping afternoon tea, nibbling on finger sandwiches or snooping among the sumptuous gardens of the Grand Dame Hotel.of Tenerife

Hotel Riu Palace Tenerife

What gin would I like for my G & T?   The list is long and after a time I finally opt for Miller’s with lemon zest, orange slices and fennel seeds.   It’s refreshing, but by far the best part is drinking it on the terrace of  the Hotel Riu Palace Tenerife overlooking the sea on, a warm November evening.
